12/26/2023 0 Comments Use friends ilok license managerIt is actually more powerful than my Q9450 quad core desktop (except for total RAM amount) and uses 1/10th the power to do the same tasks. Just one reason I have no plans to use one is the fact that my main DAW PC is now my Sony Vaio Duo 11 tablet. Needless to say, I've ditched Waves for that reason. In fact, the ONLY issue I have had with online software registration is with Waves which won't run unless my iPhone is tethered to my Sony!! It sees the iPhone as the main modem (which it actually is given that is the only internet access I have) and without it present, Waves refuses to run. I also have Toontrack SDII, AAS Lounge Lizard 4, AAS String Studio V2, iZotope Ozone 5 Advanced and RX2 Advanced which use online registration/authorization. As you can see, I am not against online software checks or challenge/response type registrations, although they are not my favourite. I also have a subscription to the full Adobe Creative Cloud Suite but even that doesn't require a hardware dongle. The closest thing I have to iLok on my PC is IK Multimedia Custom Shop and Native Instruments Service Center and they work fine most of the time (downloading updates from NI Service Center can be flaky though so I usually download from the NI website and install them manually). There are very few products that use iLok that I actually need and I have all those bases covered by other companies who do not use iLok. I have no intention of going anywhere near an iLok for numerous reasons, nor do I really need to. I am not a software thief by any stretch and have paid licences for all the payware I use (and have donated to numerous other software devs). The only ones throwing their full weight against ilok or embracing piracy as "harmless" are the thieves. or the best one: it "punishes" legitimate users!!!! Lol.like preserving the resale value of my software is a"punishment"! What is not true is the childish arguments against i-lok: it causes problems, it's not reliable, it's evil, etc., etc. Yes, it's true (and expected) that a small portion of real users will have trouble with it - that's true of all products. Problem is very simple: ilok won't allow people to steal the work of others - so the potential thieves hate it. Genuinely interested in opinions, let's try make this a good discussion and not a flame-fest. So what's the deal here?Īre there any actual numbers on how many users are affected by any issues? Places like these tend to be a collection point for bad stories more than good ones with regards to these kinds of things, so one should be careful to generalize and form opinion based on what you read in a forum. I read about the incidents and issues but always read about how people heard stories or read about them, never people actually having had any. I mean I honestly do not see any problems with it. I see a lot of people stating they would never use any product requiring iLOK and I would be interested to know why. I actually think the concept of install where you need, then plugin the key when you use is a good one. So, what's the story here? Been using one for quite a while mainly because of Slate VSTs but have not had any issues. If everybody cared to grow up - iLok would not be needed. Music, software and other stuff too - I pay for that service if they ask for that. I feel good about giving something back to people that created things that makes my life easier in one way or the other. Part of growing up is wanting to give something back - and feel good about doing that. Somebody has stated - locks on doors are to keep honest people out, thiefs will always find a way.Īnd the same goes for warez downloaders - it's a way of life for some people that never want to grow up. I sympathize with software vendors needing to protect their property and business - but I don't have to like hardware locks. One guy posting here using UVI workstation which requite iLok for some libraries - had his computer shut down - not crash but controlled shutdown - when not finding a iLok stick. People upgraded and stick contained no licenses anymore.īeing a business by itself, PACE are looking to make as much profit as they can - and now started to charge for different things like $50 to move licenses between accounts. One thing that caught me was the thing how get licenses back on the stick once doing an upgrade of iLok software. Things put there usually take quite a number of people having the issues.
